What are some simple things you can do to improve your Instagram profile?

Updating your social media profiles can seem daunting. However, there are some simple things you can do to make an immediate impact. Firstly, update your hashtag strategy and your profile picture. Then re-write your bio to reflect what you do. Instagram stories have risen in popularity lately – take advantage of them! Finally, start using a social media schedular to plan out your posts 2-4 weeks ahead.

Here are five easy things you can do to start improving your Instagram profile

1. Save these hashtags

If you didn’t already know, having a sound hashtag strategy is a large part of your social media strategy for growth. Instagram uses hashtags to show your content to a broader audience than your followers. I have compiled some hashtags you can save and use in your posts in the below downloadables.

Note – no one actually uses hashtags to search for things on Facebook, so you don’t need to use them on there. This is where a social media scheduler comes in handy so that you can customise your messaging per social platform.

2. Update your profile picture

Is your Instagram profile picture your business’ logo, and does it match your profile on your other social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter? Keeping a consistent image across all of your customer touchpoints is essential! Make sure your social media profile pictures, website, newsletters, in-store signage and business cards are all aligned. You can use online apps to make consistent content creation easier. 3. Re-write your bio

Do some competitor research, what are other businesses in your industry or your geographical region doing well on Instagram, and what do they include in their bio? Some things to consider are:

  • Location (e.g. Sunshine Coast, Maroochydore, Noosa)
  • Hashtags (e.g. #plumber)
  • Emojis 👍
  • Who you are
  • What you do
  • Current offers
  • Link to your website
  • Call to actions

4. Use Instagram stories

Instagram stories are here to stay! Put your business top-of-mind and post regular stories for your audience. Some ideas include current offers, daily specials, new staff members, upcoming events, completed jobs, the list goes on! Videos are an easy way to engage with your audience regularly. Instagram are continually adding new stickers to their Instagram stories for businesses to leverage. In between the long standing Location, Mention and Hashtag stickers and the newly added DM, Food Orders. Gift Cards and Small Business Support stickers, your business can see results from using these in your stories.

5. Sign up for a scheduler

Staying on top of your posting schedule can be exhausting! Facebook and Instagram have creator studio built into business manager where you can schedule out posts on these platforms for free. However, if you want to include other platforms in your scheduling then you might need to look into a paid tool.

There are so many paid tools out there and all offer different platforms. Hoosuite is one of the more established platforms out there, however there are new entrants coming onto the market all the time.
